This Year's Heat Exceeded All Historical Maximums Observed: Gagik Surenyann
The Deputy Director of the Hydro-Meteorology and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Environment, Gagik Surenyann, commented on the recent anomalous heatwave across the republic during a press conference today.
"Typically, in the summer season, Armenia's climatic conditions are shaped by tropical air masses that penetrate from the south, particularly from Iraq and Iran. According to seasonal patterns, a significant influx of these hot tropical masses usually begins in July, but this year it started in the first ten days of June. As a result, we experienced a situation where, from June 15-29, the maximum temperatures in several regions of the republic exceeded all historical maximums observed on those days. It turned out that this June became the hottest month in the history of meteorology, based on average temperature, duration of heatwaves, and maximum temperature indicators," Surenyann reported.
