Robert Kocharyan Transferred from Hospital to Yerevan-Center Penitentiary
The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, has been transferred from the Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center to the Yerevan-Center penitentiary to serve a court-imposed two-month detention.
Kocharyan’s lawyer, Aram Orbelyan, informed Sputnik Armenia that the former president’s health condition continues to be problematic. “I am not a doctor, but as far as I have discussed with experts and studied professional literature, the situation is concerning. About two weeks ago, a stented patient, based on the symptoms Mr. Kocharyan was experiencing, is recommended to stay under observation for at least another two weeks,” Orbelyan stated.
According to him, it is not mandatory for Kocharyan to remain in the hospital, but it is necessary to have conditions in place that would allow for a quick transfer to a medical facility in case of a health deterioration.
It should be noted that the Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Sargis Dadoyan, fully approved the investigator's request and imposed a two-month detention as a preventive measure against Robert Kocharyan. Approximately seven hours after the start of the court session, Kocharyan was transferred to the hospital, and the session continued without him.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, Robert Kocharyan is accused of large-scale money laundering, abuse of official powers, and receiving large-scale bribes.
