Negative Trend Continues in Armenia, as Discussed by Putin and Pashinyan: Zakharova
Russia is not intervening in Armenia's internal affairs and the activities of law enforcement agencies, but it cannot remain indifferent to the political processes taking place in the country. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to her, the "negative trend" in Armenia continues, which Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted during his meeting with Nikol Pashinyan on April 1 in Moscow.
Zakharova claimed that this is about the "escalation of pressure" on political forces and figures advocating for the preservation and strengthening of allied relations with Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry representative also expressed the opinion that the actions of Armenia's law enforcement may have a politicized nature. She noted that they contradict the official statements from Yerevan, asserting that Armenia is not taking steps to worsen its relations with Russia.
Zakharova expressed hope that political forces, community leaders, public figures, and activists advocating for strengthening relations with Russia will be able to participate freely in Armenia's domestic political life. She also criticized Armenia's authorities' "new friends," claiming they ignore these processes and are trying to use Armenia within the framework of confrontation with Russia.
