The Accusation Against the Catholicos and Bishops is an Illegal Interference: Mother See

The preliminary hearing for the criminal case against His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, and six bishops of the Supreme Spiritual Council has been scheduled for August 28, 2026, at 16:30, according to the information system of the Mother See.

“In accordance with the right provided by part 4 of Article 272 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, His Holiness the Catholicos and the senior clergy will not be present at the hearing. Their interests will be represented by their defense attorneys. The charges brought against the Catholicos and six bishops constitute an illegal interference in the internal life of the Church. The rights of the Catholicos and bishops must be restored immediately, and the unlawful criminal prosecution against them must be terminated,” the statement read.
