The Netherlands Considers All Armenians Held in Azerbaijan as Prisoners of War: Ambassador
The Netherlands considers all Armenians held in Azerbaijan as prisoners of war. In an interview with Armenpress, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia, Nico Schermers, stated, "All Armenians detained in Azerbaijan are recognized by the Netherlands as war prisoners. The Netherlands plays a very minor role in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and we channel our efforts through Brussels or within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group," said Schermers.
The Dutch ambassador in Armenia expressed hope that a long-term solution would be found for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev refuses to fulfill the obligations undertaken in the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, regarding the return of Armenian prisoners of war. He claims that Azerbaijan has handed over all prisoners to Armenia, and that they only have "criminals" in their custody.
