Trade Between Azerbaijan and Russia Declines Sharply

In the first seven months of 2026, trade volume between Azerbaijan and Russia has significantly decreased. According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the trade turnover between the two countries from January to July amounted to $2.1 billion, which is 31.2% less compared to the same period last year.

The decline is mainly attributed to a sharp drop in imports from Russia to Azerbaijan. Over the seven-month period, Azerbaijan imported approximately $1.36 billion worth of goods from Russia, a decrease of 42% compared to the previous year.

Conversely, trade in the opposite direction has not diminished. Exports from Azerbaijan to Russia increased by 3.9%, totaling about $750 million. Thus, the overall decline in trade between Azerbaijan and Russia occurred not due to a reduction in Azerbaijani exports but primarily due to a 42% cut in imports of Russian goods.

Russia accounted for 7.2% of Azerbaijan's total foreign trade turnover. For comparison, Azerbaijan's overall foreign trade during the same period increased by 1.3%, reaching $29.2 billion.
