Irina Yolyan's Candidacy Discussed for Chair of RA National Assembly's Territorial Administration and Environmental Protection Committee
The "Strong Armenia" faction has nominated MP Irina Yolyan for the position of chair of the National Assembly's permanent committee on territorial administration and environmental protection.
During her speech, Irina Yolyan stated that the committee's work should aim to create value. Addressing sectoral issues, Yolyan emphasized that a primary focus should be the construction of a copper processing plant, which would allow for the processing of concentrated materials extracted from the country's subsoil, bringing greater benefits to the nation.
According to Irina Yolyan, one of the important directions for the country should be the development of a green economy and solar energy in communities. "Armenia has enormous potential for solar energy. We should encourage our communities and municipal infrastructures—schools, kindergartens, street lighting, water supply—to transition to solar and energy-efficient systems. This will not only reduce the expenses of community budgets but also increase our communities' energy independence and resilience," she added.
It is noteworthy that during the National Assembly's session on August 20, 9 chairs were elected out of 12 permanent committees, with 8 representing the "Civil Contract" faction and 1 from the "Armenia" faction. Three candidates put forward by the "Strong Armenia" faction were not elected to the proposed positions. On August 26, MP Harutyun Harutyunyan from the "Strong Armenia" faction was elected chair of the permanent committee on European integration, while on August 21, MP Liana Manukyan was elected chair of the permanent committee on financial and budgetary matters. Irina Yolyan was the other candidate proposed by the "Strong Armenia" faction for the position.
