The outcome of negotiations between the United States and Iran could be known within the next 48 hours. This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump while responding to reporters' requests to comment on information suggesting that the Strait of Hormuz could be opened as early as August 5, should an agreement be reached between Washington and Tehran, TASS reports.

"We are making very good progress in the negotiation process with Iran. We will know the results within 48 hours. The opening of the Strait of Hormuz could happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Significant progress has been made," Trump said while speaking to reporters before departing for Los Angeles.

Earlier, the Axios portal, citing sources, reported that the U.S. is planning to announce temporary agreements regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Iran and Oman on August 5.
