Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a 'Red Line' for Azerbaijan, Says Hajiyev

The assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, has stated that the potential recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Israel regarding the events of 1915 is a 'red line' for Baku. He noted that following the issue gaining attention, active diplomatic communications with Israel were initiated at the direction of the Azerbaijani leadership.

According to Hajiyev, the Azerbaijani side has conveyed to Israel that such a decision, in Baku's view, 'does not correspond to historical reality and is unacceptable.' He claimed that the Israeli side has taken Azerbaijan's messages seriously, and in his opinion, progress on the issue has been halted.

The presidential assistant also stated that Turkey's interests are always a priority for Azerbaijan, emphasizing that the two countries mutually support each other's interests in international forums.

Earlier reports indicated that the Israeli government had halted the advancement of the initiative to recognize the 1915 events as the Armenian Genocide, and the issue has been removed from the Knesset's agenda.
