New Spider-Man Film Achieves Second Highest Box Office Debut in History

“Spider-Man: A Completely New Day” has made an impressive start at the box office, collecting $355 million in North America and $927 million worldwide. According to CNN, this marks the second largest debut in box office history.

Analysts indicate that the film ranks only behind the 2019 release of “Avengers: Endgame,” which earned $357 million during its opening weekend in the US and Canada.

“Spider-Man: A Completely New Day” has returned to the big screen nearly five years after the franchise's previous installment, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which had an opening weekend revenue of $260 million in North America.

The new film has also received high praise from audiences. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures’ “The Odyssey” continues to perform well, earning $124.5 million during its opening weekend and adding another $51 million in its second weekend, bringing its global revenue to $911.4 million.

The weekend's box office top five also included Disney’s “Toy Story 5” with $6.3 million, Universal’s “Minions and Monsters” with $5.8 million, the live-action version of “Moana” with $5.3 million, and the live-action version of “Hadestown: The Musical” with $2.1 million.

Analysts believe that the successful start in August could help boost the overall revenue of the summer movie season to $4 billion. Predictions suggest that total box office revenue in 2026 could approach $10 billion. Revenue from theaters since the start of the year has already reached $6.19 billion, surpassing the figures from the same period in 2025 by nearly 15%.
