Pope Francis Responds to Donald Trump's Criticism
Pope Francis has answered the statements from U.S. President Donald Trump. Previously, the United States leader had harshly criticized the Pope, stating that he does not need a leader who is against his political agenda. Trump also added that if he were not in the White House, Pope Francis would not be in the Vatican.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni labeled such statements as unacceptable, to which Trump emphasized that the U.S. will not assist Italy, as Rome allegedly did not support Washington's actions against Iran.
"The mission of the Catholic Church is to preach the Gospel, to proclaim peace... If someone wants to criticize me for preaching the Gospel, let them do so truthfully... I just hope that I will be heard," the Pope's words are quoted by the Vatican News portal.
Pope Francis has previously criticized U.S. actions in Iran, deeming threats directed at the Iranian people unacceptable. In early April, when U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called for prayers for military personnel, Pope Francis emphasized during his sermon that the desire for dominance contradicts the path of Jesus Christ.
