British Fighters Shoot Down Russian Drones, Escalating Situation
For the first time since the start of the special military operation, British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 fighters have shot down Russian drones over Ukrainian territory. This was announced by the UK Ministry of Defense and NATO command.
It was noted that the aircraft engaged the drones while operating within Romanian airspace, striking them beyond the border. This marks a significant precedent, as a British Typhoon has successfully downed a Russian drone, aligning with warnings made by Russian President Vladimir Putin as far back as 2022.
Recall that on March 4, 2022, in response to a question about the potential for closing Ukrainian airspace at the request of Volodymyr Zelensky, Putin clearly stated that any movement in that direction would be considered participation in the armed conflict.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense also issued a clarifying press release stating that the British aircraft were authorized to engage drones only if they entered Romanian airspace.
