The Driver Who Struck Sona Mnatsakanyan Remains at Large, Lawyer Says
Prime Minister Pashinyan's convoy continues to drive recklessly even after the incident involving Sona Mnatsakanyan, and the driver responsible for the hit-and-run remains at large. This was stated by lawyer Tatev Sogoyan during a press conference under the title ‘Citizen and Justice’.
“The driver who caused the accident is still free; a verdict was rendered last year, but approximately 3-4 months later, the written verdict was passed to the parties, postponing the possibility of an appeal. The appeal phase began at the start of this year. The driver is the only accused party, and no charges have been brought against other officials responsible for the convoy. Throughout the proceedings, the representatives of the victim’s side have appealed twice to have the officials of the convoy re-examined, as well as regarding the loss of evidence, since the recording of the convoy's radio communication was not preserved. They say it simply was not recorded due to a technical failure.
Sona Mnatsakanyan, on an ordinary day when she stepped out of her house and while crossing the street without expecting any danger, could be struck by the convoy accompanying the Prime Minister, and as a result, she faces attempts by the authorities to bury the case through various leverage. This impunity has not ceased; it is an ongoing issue. The Prime Minister's convoy or other official service vehicles continue to drive at such reckless speeds, creating similar dangerous situations.
It is important that we all recognize this, and there should be public awareness and discussion. Every citizen should not consider it just an unfortunate incident but realize that measures must be taken against it, whether through public protests or later through amendments in laws or behaviors. In any case, it is crucial to highlight this issue,” she noted.
