Moscow Responds to Italy's Foreign Ministry Actions
The Russian ambassador to Italy, Alexey Paramonov, has been summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry. This decision by official Rome was prompted by critical remarks made by Russian television presenter Vladimir Solovyov about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed the summoning of the ambassador, emphasizing that it was a response to statements made during the broadcast of 'Solovyov Live'. The incident centers around an episode of the program 'Полный контакт', during which Solovyov issued harsh assessments of the activities of the head of the Italian government.
The presenter accused Meloni of 'betraying' her own constituents and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Additionally, comments aired on Russian television were deemed unacceptable by the Italian side in terms of the leader's reputation.
The official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has responded to the current situation, stating that Italy's actions demonstrate not only 'double standards' but also a general lack of principled stances. Zakharova emphasized that Moscow remains supportive of dialogue based on mutual respect, while evaluating the current situation as an disproportionate reaction to a personal opinion.
As of now, the Russian embassy in Italy has not issued an official statement regarding the details of the meeting.
