Comments on Telegram Restrictions in the State Duma
In Russia, potential restrictions on the operation of the Telegram messenger are due to the company's alleged failure to fully comply with the country's legal requirements. This was stated by State Duma deputy Andrey Svinzov in a comment to "Ostorožno, Novosti."
The deputy noted that while Telegram is cooperating with "Roskomnadzor," it is doing so at an insufficient level. He pointed out that if the messenger wants to continue operating in Russia and earn significant revenue, it must fully comply with national legislation.
Svinzov also emphasized that the company should be physically represented in the country and pay taxes; however, in his assessment, these funds are currently not reflected in the state budget.
At the same time, Russian authorities have begun the process of limiting the operations of Telegram. According to RBC, this information has been confirmed by a source within the IT sector and two sources from industry-related agencies. According to them, "Roskomnadzor" may take steps to partially restrict the messenger's operations as early as today.
One source claimed that the slowdown in Telegram's operations has already begun. Official bodies have not yet provided details regarding the extent and timeline of the restrictions.
