Vardan Ghukasyan's Detention Period May Be Extended by 3 Months
The detention period of Gyumri's mayor, Vardan Ghukasyan, may be extended by three months. During the court session that began today under the chairmanship of Judge Levon Petrosyan at the Anti-Corruption Court, the prosecutor submitted a motion to extend the detention period, arguing that the grounds for the previously applied measure of restraint continue to persist.
According to the prosecutor, there is a high risk that Vardan Ghukasyan might commit a new crime if released. Additionally, considering his high-ranking positions and status, he could exert illegal influence over witnesses and other individuals involved in the case.
The defense team also submitted motions for the release of Vardan Ghukasyan from detention, claiming it to be unlawful and incompatible with his health condition.
It is worth mentioning that on the morning of October 21, Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan was detained for two months. On October 26, new charges were brought against him regarding thoughts of Armenia forming a union with other countries.
