Hayk Sargsyan Believes He Was Rejected by Party Colleagues Due to Law Against Billionaires' Interests
The leadership of the 'Civil Contract' party has rejected MP Hayk Sargsyan's candidacy for registration to participate in the upcoming elections. He is confident that his activities have 'hurt' some members of the leadership, which is why they voted against his candidacy.
'I have presented a number of legislative proposals and made several suggestions to the government. The most contentious piece of legislation, which led to the rejection of my candidacy under the leadership of one of the members, is a draft law that I authored to double the taxes on online casinos. This law was passed after intense debates. As a result, from April to now, about 10 billion drams have been deposited into the Republic of Armenia's state budget. According to this draft law, starting January 1, if we do not have a gaming operator, taxes should triple. We see that we will not have a gaming operator in the near future. This means that from January 1, an additional $70 million will be deposited into the state budget. The funds that have gone into the state budget before have previously lined the pockets of those who are owners of these large companies and billionaires,' said Hayk Sargsyan.
When asked if these owners are connected to those who voted against him, he replied, 'Of course, they are.'
