Cambodia Not Ready for Negotiations, Says Thai Foreign Minister
The Thai Foreign Minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, believes that Cambodia is not ready for negotiations to resolve the situation at the Thailand-Cambodia border.
"The problem is that Cambodia is not ready for negotiations. Therefore, Thailand must continue military operations until Cambodia is truly ready for talks," the minister was quoted as saying by The Nation newspaper.
The Foreign Minister stated that "Thailand is obligated to defend its sovereignty and do everything possible to end the threats posed by Cambodia." He emphasized that Phnom Penh "must realize what it actually wants to sit at the negotiation table for."
The Director General and spokesperson of the Information Department of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nikondet Palangkun, announced that Thailand will continue military clashes with Cambodia in border areas until the threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity is eliminated.
