From August 1, Paper QR Tickets Will Be Phased Out

Yerevan will continue to operate a unified, modern ticketing system for public transport with 3 innovative payment options starting from August 1:

• Transport card,
• Contactless bank card (from all banks in Armenia except VTB),
• Mobile application.

Earlier, the Yerevan Municipality announced that from August 1, paper tickets with QR codes will gradually be phased out of circulation.

It is worth noting that the National Assembly has fully adopted a legislative package which imposes fines for violations of public transport usage rules in the second reading.

The law establishes three main penalty amounts:

• 10,000 drams for not paying the fare or not validating the ticket. This applies to cases where a passenger attempts to travel without payment.
• 15,000 drams for using a discounted ticket intended for another person (for example, a pensioner or student).
• 3,000 drams for having a ticket, but not validating it with the validator. This penalty is designed not for failing to pay, but for not registering the journey after entering the transport vehicle.
