What is Happening at Upper Lars: Details
Currently, around 600 Armenian trucks are stranded on the Russian side of Upper Lars, while about 300 Armenian trucks are lined up on the Georgian side heading towards Russia. This information was provided to Auroranews by Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attaché at the Armenian Embassy in Russia.
According to him, the queue of passenger vehicles stretches nearly 2 kilometers. “Unfortunately, I do not have the authority or capability to assist our citizens in any way. I am currently working with both the Russian and Georgian sides, trying to do everything possible to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. My role is customs-related, and I deal with customs matters. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is on-site providing assistance to everyone, offering hot tea, food, charging phones, and warming up people,” Hakobyan noted.
He also stated that the Georgian side has already begun snow removal work and there is hope that traffic for passenger vehicles will be restored during the day. It is likely that by the end of the day or tomorrow, traffic for trucks will also resume.
It is important to remind that earlier reports indicated a disgraceful situation at the Upper Lars checkpoint, where hundreds of Armenians have been stuck for days, waiting to enter Armenia, with some needing to be transferred to hospitals.
