Dragons Stones of the Tirikadar Archaeological Site in Armenia Included in UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List

At the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the proposal submitted by Armenia for the inclusion of the dragons stones and cultural landscape of the Tirikadar archaeological site in the Aragatsotn region has been approved. This was announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.

The session is taking place in New Delhi, India, from July 20-30. Harutyun Vanyan, the head of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, is participating in the session as the coordinator of the convention.

This marks the fifth entry of Armenia in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The first four were registered in 1995, namely the archaeological site of Dvin, the church and archaeological site of Yereruyk, Noravank, and the upper gorge of the Amaghu River, as well as the Tatev Monastery, the Tatev Desert, and surrounding areas of the Vorotan River gorge (the list can be accessed via the following link: https://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/am).

Registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List from Armenia are the monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat, the Mother Cathedral of Echmiadzin and churches, as well as the archaeological site of Zvartnots, the Geghard Monastery, and the upper gorge of the Azat River.

Registration of a monument in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List is a mandatory preliminary condition for registering new monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Work in this direction continues, with periodic announcements regarding new proposals.
