Prime Minister Clarifies Why Police Prevented Catholicos from Entering Sardarapat
The Catholicos of Armenia did not have an invitation to the event in Sardarapat, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters yesterday.
“When the Catholicos approached the venue of the state ceremonial event, and in fact, he did not have an invitation, we also did not have information that he was expecting an invitation. The police simply tried to clarify whether the Catholicos had come to continue provocations by his political supporters or for other purposes,” he said.
According to Pashinyan, once the police received reassurance that the visit was solely for ceremonial purposes, they facilitated the Catholicos's entry into the Sardarapat Memorial Complex.
“The movement led by him had created conditions for obstacles,” the Prime Minister added.
