Woman Who Threw Umbrella at Nikol Pashinyan Found Guilty
The court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor provinces, presided over by Judge Mikael Grigoryan, has issued a ruling in the case of a woman who threw an umbrella at Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the village of Malishka, Vayots Dzor region, on April 10 of last year.
The woman, identified as Narine Asatryan, was found guilty under Article 44-452, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and sentenced to two years of imprisonment. However, in accordance with Article 84 of the RA Criminal Code, the imprisonment sentence has been conditionally suspended, with a two-year probation period established. During this period, Narine Asatryan is required to report to the probation service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and must not leave the country without the consent of the competent authority overseeing her behavior, as well as inform the relevant authority about any change of her residence.
The court also ruled that the blue umbrella, which was deemed material evidence in the criminal case, should be destroyed after the legal force of the verdict comes into effect.
According to the charges, the 47-year-old woman attempted to commit violence against Nikol Pashinyan by throwing her umbrella at him, in defiance of the police's legal demands.
Narine Asatryan is a displaced person from Artsakh. She resettled in Berdzor with her family in the 2000s and did not leave until Berdzor was ultimately transferred to Azerbaijani control. Narine now lives in Malishka village with her husband and their seven children, renting their home.
