Russia Changes Military Presence Format in Syria: Khmeimim and Tartus to Be Transformed

After 18 months of negotiations, Syria and Russia have reached an agreement on the future status of the Russian presence at Khmeimim and Tartus. According to the memorandum, civilian facilities, including Khmeimim Airport and the fourth commercial dock at Tartus port, will gradually come under the control of the Syrian government.

Military facilities will be transformed into joint Syria-Russia training centers instead of traditional military bases. The transitional process is expected to be completed within three months.
