Inter Miami suffered a 1-2 defeat to Mexican club Monterrey in the second round of the League Cup group stage match held at the Miami's Nu Stadium. The home team's captain, Lionel Messi, missed the game due to a family tragedy following the death of his father, 68-year-old Jorge Messi.

Under the direction of Guillermo Oyo, the team started the match confidently, and in the 32nd minute, Rodrigo De Paul put Miami ahead. The goal was marked by an emotional moment as De Paul, a world champion with the Argentina national team in 2022 and a runner-up in 2026, dedicated the goal to his close friend Messi. Celebrating the success, the midfielder removed his jersey to reveal another shirt underneath with Messi's name, turning to the stands and repeatedly pointing to it.

However, Inter Miami could not maintain their lead. Just after the start of the second half, in the 47th minute, Hugo Kaypers equalized the score, and in the added seventh minute (90+7'), Diego Rossi secured the winning goal for the visitors.

After two rounds, both Inter Miami and Monterrey have three points each. In the next round, the American club will face the Mexican team Leon, while Monterrey will take on Nashville.
