Hormuz Will Remain Closed: Iran Demands U.S. Troop Withdrawal and Compensation

Iran will not open the Strait of Hormuz until the U.S. meets a series of conditions, including ceasing threats against Tehran, according to Press TV, citing the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic, Mohammad Bagheri Zolghadrin.

"The Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the U.S. corrects its course and stops threatening the Islamic Republic," the outlet notes.

Among the conditions specified by the Iranian senior official are the cessation of military operations against Iran and its allies, lifting sanctions and naval blockades, the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the surrounding areas of Iran, and compensation payments.

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously announced that he had called off attacks on Iran, considering an upcoming peace agreement that includes the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and accords related to the nuclear program.

On Wednesday, Iran's Foreign Ministry reported that Iran and Oman had reached an agreement on the geographical details of the route for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
