The threat of genocide has spread to the sovereign territory of Armenia. The highest warning from the Lemkin Institute

The Lemkin Institute for the Prevention of Genocide has issued a red flag alert for the third time (the highest warning), given the escalating rhetoric and demands from Azerbaijan directed at Yerevan, as well as recent attacks on the regions of Syunik and Gegharkunik.

"Previously, we had issued multiple red flags and SOS alerts regarding the Republic of Artsakh, occupied and displaced by Azerbaijan as of September 19, 2023. Now, as anticipated from our previous publications, the danger of genocide has also spread to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia itself. Azerbaijan seems to be implementing a strategy for the gradual occupation of Armenia's sovereign territory," the institute's experts noted, emphasizing that Baku is now seeking to establish control over eight villages, which Azerbaijan claims are under Armenian occupation.

"Its goal is to completely control the Armenian state and unite Azerbaijan with Turkey... By aiming to control Armenia's strategic points, Azerbaijan appears to be modeling its policy on the example of the establishment of Israeli settlements in Palestine. The threat facing Armenia has become urgent, requiring immediate and coordinated attention from the international community. Urgent action is imperative to prevent another case of territorial occupation and genocide similar to what occurred in Artsakh just six months ago," the publication states.
