Video: Ebeko Volcano Ejects Ash Cloud at 3.5 km Height

The Ebeko volcano, located on the northern Kuril island of Paramushir, has emitted an ash plume reaching a height of 3.5 kilometers above sea level. This information comes from the press service of the Sakhalin region's Ministry of Emergency Situations, according to INTERFAX.

According to the press service, the ash plume extends eastward up to 5 kilometers. There has been no ash fall observed in the town of Severo-Kurilsk (the only inhabited place in the Northern Kuril Islands), and there is no detectable smell of hydrogen sulfide. The safety of the local population is not at risk.

The Ebeko volcano (height: 1156 m) is situated in the northern part of the Verkhoyansk mountain range, about 7 kilometers from Severo-Kurilsk. It is a complex stratovolcano with several summit craters. The volcano last erupted in 2012 and then entered a period of dormancy that lasted until October 2016.

An orange color code for aviation danger has been declared for Ebeko, indicating that ash could pose a threat to low-flying aircraft.
