In What Case Will Turkey Support Sweden's NATO Membership?
Turkey will support Sweden's membership in NATO if the United States finalizes a deal to sell F-16 fighter jets to Ankara. This information has been reported by Turkish media, citing its sources. The report comes from RIA Novosti.
According to the newspaper, "rumors are circulating" that positive outcomes have been recorded in the background regarding the issue of Finland and Sweden's membership, which has recently come to the fore.
Abdulqadir Selvi, a columnist close to the government, stated that the "secret embargo" on arms supplies imposed by certain countries against Turkey has been lifted.
The Turkish newspaper emphasizes that granting approval to Sweden's application is not a problem for Turkey; the entire issue revolves around the lack of trust from the United States. If that trust is established, then Sweden's path will be cleared.
On December 6, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that he expects the delivery of F-16 fighter jets from the U.S. to complete the process of ratifying Sweden's NATO application.
