Argentina's President Issues 'Strange' Orders, Appoints Justice Minister Who Has Served Time for Hiding Evidence
The newly elected President of Argentina has reduced the number of ministries in the country from 20 to 9 with his first decree. Argentine media report this development.
Javier Milei has retained only the ministries of internal affairs, foreign affairs, international trade, defense, economy, infrastructure, justice, security, as well as health and human capital.
Milei has also signed several other intriguing decrees. Notably, the presidential scepter, which he used to assume the presidency of Argentina, features the heads of his five dogs, four of which are clones.
For the first time, government ministers took their oaths in private, without press or broadcast.
The new Minister of Justice, who spent a month in prison for hiding evidence, has been appointed, while the security minister is a politician who failed to progress past the second round of elections. The new Minister of Foreign Affairs is an economist with no diplomatic experience.
The Ministry of Human Capital (education, culture, social policy) will be headed by a journalist with no managerial experience. Milei has appointed his sister as the head of his office.
