Video: "Yerevan's actions are unfriendly," says Zakharova
Russia views Armenia's actions in the context of the potential ratification of the Rome Statute as unfriendly. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing.
Zakharova reminded that the Armenian ambassador has already been summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where a note of protest was sent regarding several unfriendly actions taken by Yerevan, including the ratification of the Rome Statute.
"Yerevan must explain and clarify its motivations. What is the purpose of this action? Why? Incidentally, they have presented their assessments. However, we regard such steps as unfriendly, which we have repeatedly stated. We have also spoken with our Armenian friends and partners, but at this stage, we have begun to discuss this publicly, as issues have increased," she noted.
According to her, the ratification is not a unique step, as the Armenian side believes, but part of a series of actions.
The diplomat emphasized that Russia considers Armenia a sovereign state, but Armenia's actions and statements are harmful. These could disrupt the process of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. They could also hinder the implementation of everything that has been agreed upon by the parties under Russian mediation. All this is enshrined in statements that have the approval of the leaders of the three countries.
The Foreign Ministry representative stated that Russia is interested in a current resolution, not a fabricated or false resolution, but a real solution. According to her, there is no formal approach here, nor is there an exclusively diplomatic solution. The Russian side has tried to explain that all of this does not harm Russia; rather, these self-proclaimed steps simply do not contribute to the resolution.
It is reminded that on September 1, the Armenian government submitted a draft to the National Assembly for the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
