The Ban on Dairy Exports from Armenia to Russia is a Pure Trade Barrier: Kerebeyan
The ban on dairy exports from Armenia to Russia is a purely trade barrier and will soon be resolved. This was announced today by Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Vahan Kerebeyan, during a session of the National Assembly, noting that the issue is currently under discussion.
“Our view is that such a decision could not be implemented within the framework of the EEU regulations. We are in discussions every day to expedite the resolution of this decision or part of it. I believe we will see results in the near future,” he said.
Speaking generally about food security, Vahan Kerebeyan mentioned that Armenia has adopted a food safety strategy, under which the entire food safety value chain will be sharply tightened. “Today, companies are obliged to align their production and sales locations with international food safety standards, but in reality, these regulations are not being properly implemented. After the tightening of the law, this issue will be addressed,” the minister added.
It is noteworthy that Rosselkhoznadzor announced it would be examining the issue of import restrictions on dairy products from Armenia to Russia due to poor control over restrictive measures by the Armenian side and violations. It was noted that Armenian dairy processing enterprises use raw materials produced in Iran, which are subject to restrictive measures by Rosselkhoznadzor.
It should be mentioned that the ban on dairy exports from Armenia to Russia came into effect on April 5.
