Pranksters Called European Central Bank President Posing as Zelensky
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has praised the work of Elvira Nabiullina, the head of the Central Bank of Russia, for her efforts in saving the ruble amid massive sanctions. This statement was made during a conversation with Russian pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexey Stolyarov) who posed as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to news.ru, Lagarde stated, “I believe that Elvira, whom I know well, is a very good central bank governor. She quickly understood the situation and sharply raised interest rates. And that was the right measure at that time to prevent high inflation. So that the people who invested their money in Russia, primarily Russians, would keep their money in Russia.”
She also noted that Nabiullina has “done an excellent job.” However, Lagarde admitted that inflation in Europe is also not behaving as forecasted, heading in a worse direction. “The inflation we predicted to be temporary continues much longer than expected and at a much higher level than anticipated,” she added.
