Adidas Forced to Dispose of Unsold Yeezy Sneakers
The sportswear brand Adidas has been compelled to part ways with its Yeezy sneaker collection, created in collaboration with rapper Kanye West, following the termination of their relationship. This was reported by The Washington Post.
At the beginning of February 2023, representatives of the brand warned that if Adidas could not sell the product, it would face serious financial losses. Later, the company's new CEO Bjorn Gulden estimated that the total value of the sneakers amounts to $300-500 million. The company stated that based on last year's calculations, it would incur a revenue loss of $1.3 million if it did not figure out how to sell the unsold merchandise.
Market experts suggest that the company might attempt to offer Yeezy sneakers without the collection's branding and at a significant discount; however, this approach is deemed highly risky as it could negatively affect Adidas's image. There is also the possibility that the shoes will be sold through discount centers or retail in developing countries.
