Azerbaijan and Turkey Face Potential Water Crisis

Azerbaijani media are raising alarms regarding the potential risk of drought in the country as the level of the Kura River has significantly decreased. According to Adil Shabanli, a resident of the Surra area in Azerbaijan, the river's level has reached a minimum this month. He emphasized that the scarcity of water and its absence is a nationwide issue, hence it is essential to use water resources carefully and efficiently.

Warnings about drought are also coming from Turkey, with Turkish MP Muharrem İnce stating that Turkey is on the brink of a water crisis, which could lead to an industrial crisis. Previously, Turkish Telegram channels reported that water usage restrictions have been imposed in the Çanakkale region. Images of the dried-up Tigris River, which feeds eastern Turkey, confirm that a drought is beginning in Turkey. Reports also indicate that the reservoirs in Istanbul are at unprecedented low levels.

Earlier, researchers from Yale University had noted that amid climate change, Turkey faces a future without water.
