Russia Developing New Type of Military Operations Involving Use of Nuclear Weapons
Russia is developing a new type of military operations that do not exclude the use of nuclear weapons to defend against potential aggression from the United States, as noted in an article by Lieutenant General Igor Fazletdinov, the first deputy commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN), and retired Colonel V.I. Lumpev in the military magazine "Military Thought" published by the Ministry of Defense.
The authors of the article believe that the United States is gradually losing its leading position in the world, resulting in an increase in the aggressiveness of their geopolitical course towards Russia, as it is considered the "main culprit" of the loss of American global dominance. Simultaneously, Russia’s "defeat" is noted to be planned by the U.S. in the form of a "Strategic (Global) Multidomain Operation."
According to the authors, the primary means and tool being developed by the Russian Armed Forces to counter the Pentagon's aggressive plans to destroy Russia through the "Strategic Multidomain Operation" is viewed and actively developed as a promising form of strategic use—"Operation of Strategic Deterrence Forces."
They state that to achieve strategic goals of defeating the "American aggressor," this type of operation involves the use of modern strategic offensive and defensive, nuclear and non-nuclear weapons, taking into account the latest military technologies.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the cessation of Russia's participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which limits the number of deployed nuclear warheads and intercontinental missile carriers. However, Moscow intends to continue maintaining the quantitative restrictions set by the treaty.
It should be noted that earlier the U.S. State Department reported that the U.S. continues to adhere to the Agreement, including in terms of nuclear weapons quantity.
