Ukraine Has Always Been Europe: Zelensky Makes a Call
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the start of negotiations for Ukraine's accession to the European Union in 2023.
"Ukraine has always been Europe, Ukraine will always be Europe. We have already ensured this. One year ago, on the fifth day of the full-scale war, Ukraine applied to join the European Union and received candidate status. This year, it is time to decide and start negotiations on accession," he wrote on his Twitter page.
It should be noted that Zelensky signed the application for Ukraine to join the EU on February 28 of last year. The leaders of the EU member states and governments approved granting candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova during a summit held in Brussels on June 23. For negotiations to begin, countries must fulfill a number of conditions, including reforms and strengthening the fight against corruption.
