Pashinyan on the Draft Decision to Open Checkpoints on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border
In order to ensure the connection between Eastern Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, the draft decision of the Armenian government to open 3 checkpoints on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has been officially circulating for several months. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on Twitter that the government is awaiting a positive response from Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had previously announced that if Armenia fails to fulfill its obligations under the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020, then Baku reserves the right to respond appropriately.
“In November 2020, a trilateral declaration was adopted with the mediation of Russia. Azerbaijan fulfills all the points of the declaration, including ensuring unhindered access from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia does not fulfill its part of the declaration. In particular, it does not ensure unhindered access from the main part of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is its legal obligation, and to this day has not withdrawn its armed forces from Azerbaijani territory,” said Aliyev during the CIS summit in Astana.
