Pentagon Announces Intent to Weaken Russia
The United States aims to weaken Russia to the extent that Moscow cannot carry out actions similar to those in Ukraine. This was announced by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin while summarizing the results of negotiations with Ukrainian authorities.
“We want to weaken Russia to the point where it cannot do the kind of things it has done… (in Ukraine),” Austin stated, with his press conference broadcast by NBC in Poland.
A number of Western countries have imposed new sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and the sanctions have seriously impacted the global economy.
According to him, the main goal of the West is to deteriorate the lives of millions of people. Putin also remarked that the U.S. and the European Union are effectively reneging on their commitments regarding Russia by freezing its currency reserves. He added that current events mark the end of the West's global dominance both politically and economically. He stated that Russia does not intend to isolate itself and cannot be severely isolated in today’s world, as reported by RIA Novosti.
