Ankara Will Not Join Sanctions Against Russia While Acting as Mediator, Cavusoglu Says
Ankara will not join sanctions against the Russian Federation as long as it continues to play a mediator role between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in an interview with CNN Turk.
"It is wrong to expect that Turkey will impose sanctions against Russia while we are acting as a mediator. The West understands why we are not participating in sanctions against Russia," he said.
Cavusoglu also noted that Turkey does not agree to the request from Ukraine to provide security guarantees modeled on NATO Article 5.
