We Faced Failure in 2020, We Shouldn’t Make It a Tragedy: Hovik Aghazaryan
During a speech in the National Assembly, Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction, shared a conversation he had with a respected patriot who remarked, "Mr. Aghazaryan, what you did was not a revolution, it was a national liberation movement."
He continued, "We triumphed in the battles of the 1990s, honored our boys, and in 2020 we faced a setback, but we should not create another tragedy out of it. I do not agree with the term that we have lost, and so on."
Aghazaryan emphasized that the government is currently pursuing a peace agenda, but he expressed doubts about whether the neighboring country is ready for that. "The world knows that we want peace. My disrespectful opposition colleagues say our stance on Artsakh is unacceptable to them and they have a different view. Let them come forward with their perspective. Raise the question of recognizing Artsakh's independence, which essentially means declaring war on Azerbaijan or resuming military actions. Gather some sort of visible support and raise that issue. We will go to the elections: our program and your program. What is our program? We have no issues regarding Azerbaijan's territorial integrity; our main concern is that the people of Artsakh are determining their own future, and we must do everything possible to achieve a just and prompt resolution to that," Aghazaryan concluded.
