Turkey's Defense Ministry on the Situation in the Black Sea
There is no emergency situation in the Black Sea; mine-hunting vessels are on duty, stated Turkey's National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
Earlier, the Turkish Star newspaper reported that movement of a mine-like object was detected near the entrance of the Bosporus. Subsequently, the Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that the discovered object was a mine and announced that negotiations were underway with Moscow and Kyiv regarding the matter.
For some time, the strait was closed to vessel traffic, but was later reopened.
“There is no emergency situation in the Black Sea; our vessels are on duty to search for mines,” Akar told reporters.
