A Car License Plate Sold for Over $10 Million in Dubai

A new world record has been set for the price of a car license plate in the United Arab Emirates, according to TASS. The license plate, consisting of two letters and one number, was sold for 38 million dirhams (over 10 million dollars) during an online charity auction in Dubai. The name of the buyer of the AA9 license plate has not yet been disclosed.

Other license plates including U31, T38, and E51 were also presented during the auction. In total, sales amounted to 48.5 million dirhams (13.2 million dollars). Notable participants in the auction included UAE Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Proceeds from the auction will be used to fund a campaign to provide food for underprivileged people.

The previous record was also set in Dubai, when the D5 license plate sold for 33 million dirhams (around 9 million dollars) in 2016.
