French City of Bitche Official Page Blocked by Facebook Due to Offensive Word Similarity
Facebook has blocked the official page of the French city of Bitche due to its similarity to the American term 'bitch,' which is considered offensive, reports CNN.
Local broadcaster Radio Melodie has stated that after the blocking of the city's official Facebook page, local authorities were forced to create a new page under a different name (using the city postal code Mairie 57230-Tert.am).
Mayor Benoit Kieffens revealed that they initially believed the issue was technical, but later understood the reason for the page's blocking. Since March 19, efforts have been made to contact Facebook, though without success.
According to the television channel, the Facebook page of the city, which has a population of 5,100, was restored the previous day against the backdrop of media reports. Facebook stated that the page was 'mistakenly deleted.'
