Turkish Court Sentences Dozens to Life Imprisonment in 2016 Coup Attempt Case
A Turkish court has sentenced dozens of people to life imprisonment in connection with the 2016 coup attempt, Anadolu reports.
In 2017, 497 defendants stood trial for their roles in the attempted takeover of the military headquarters in Ankara and the attempted occupation of the state TRT television building.
Among the convicted are a former lieutenant who forced a presenter to read a statement, a former colonel accused of issuing orders to occupy the TRT building, and a former major who led the team attempting to seize the military headquarters, according to the agency's report.
A total of 106 defendants have been sentenced to 6 to 16 years in prison.
