Two Turkish Aircraft Transport Military Equipment to Libya

Two Turkish military transport aircraft have landed at the "Al-Watiya" air base (located 100 km southwest of Tripoli), reports TASS, citing Al Arabiya television. According to Libyan sources from the television channel, missile systems as well as radars have been delivered to Libya via the arriving aircraft from Turkey.

In Libya, two rival government cabinets operate: the Government of National Accord (GNA) led by Fayez al-Sarraj in Tripoli, and a temporary cabinet supported by the parliament and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA). In April 2019, Haftar launched an offensive against Tripoli. In response, the cabinet in the capital mobilized all formations under its control, officially requesting assistance from Turkey based on a military cooperation memorandum signed with it.

Subsequently, with Ankara's active support, it managed to regain control over several areas captured by Haftar's supporters. Since the beginning of December, Haftar's entourage has repeatedly stated that they continue to watch Turkey's actions with concern, accusing it of attempting to obstruct the progress of Libyan dialogue, particularly facilitated by the UN.

In recent weeks, military command representatives have accused Ankara of actively transporting military equipment and large new groups of mercenaries to areas controlled by the GNA.
