Zakharova: Zelensky is Provoking a Nuclear Disaster in Europe

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that Vladimir Zelensky is creating the risk of a nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) with his actions, thereby threatening the security of all of Europe.

According to Zakharova, Kyiv has resumed attacks on ZNPP facilities that are crucial for ensuring nuclear and radiation safety. She claimed that one of the targets on August 26 was the area of the dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.

“Zelensky and his entourage are increasingly resorting to reckless actions, demonstrating their readiness to disrupt nuclear safety at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and provoke a nuclear disaster,” declared Zakharova.

She noted that damage to such facilities could lead to a serious radiological accident, the consequences of which could extend beyond the region’s borders. Zakharova also reported that Russia has once again appealed to the International Atomic Energy Agency, urging it to assess the seriousness of the situation and take appropriate measures.

According to the publication, on August 26, a drone struck the area of the ZNPP’s dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, but no significant damage was recorded. The previous day, two employees were injured in a drone strike near the station’s hydraulic engineering structures.
