Dutch Central Bank Moves Part of Gold Reserves to Great Britain

The Dutch central bank has moved part of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to Great Britain, specifically to London. The regulator explained its decision by stating, “In the context of growing geopolitical instability, the Dutch Central Bank is enhancing its preparedness for crisis situations. Increasing the liquidity and accessibility of the Netherlands' gold reserves is part of this preparation. Furthermore, a more even distribution of reserves among North America, Great Britain, and the Netherlands allows for diversification of risks and ensures quicker access to gold in times of crisis.”

From March to August 2026, the Dutch central bank transferred approximately 86 tons of gold, valued at around $12 billion, to London. Prior to the transfer, 313 tons of the Netherlands' gold reserves were held in the U.S. and Canada.
