The Measure of Restraint Applied to Vahagn Chakhalyan Changed

The judge Karen Farukhoyan has made the decision regarding the measure of restraint applied to Vahagn Chakhalyan, the founder of the public-political initiative 'Kamq'. It is important to note that Chakhalyan's measure of restraint is set to expire on September 4.

Prior to the court's decision, prosecutors indicated that considering Chakhalyan's role as the sole breadwinner of his family and having underage children, it was necessary to mitigate the measure of restraint, but any measure should still be established.

Attorney Aleksan Tumasyan emphasized that when making a decision, the appropriate behavior demonstrated by his client over the past year and two months should be taken into account. Tumasyan also requested that no electronic devices be applied when establishing any measure of restraint, considering his health condition and the need for periodic medical check-ups.

As a result, the house arrest imposed on Vahagn Chakhalyan has been replaced with administrative supervision. The judge noted that his status as the sole provider for his family and having underage children were significant factors in the decision.

Karen Farukhoyan stated that the administrative supervision will be conducted without electronic equipment and time restrictions. The defendant is required to report to the Probation Service once a week and register, as well as not change his place of residence; otherwise, he must inform the executing body.

At the same time, the prohibition of absence in relation to the measure of restraint remains unchanged, and the court did not find it appropriate to impose bail.
