Russian Ambassador Summoned to Czech Foreign Ministry

The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry, Petr Maçinka, summoned Russian Ambassador Anna Ponomaryova on Thursday to express solidarity with Germany regarding the incident at Leipzig airport. According to a statement released by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the minister rejected the ambassador's clarifications—who referred to the events as provocations—based on compelling evidence from the German side and the findings of two Czech intelligence agencies.

Additionally, the minister informed the ambassador about planned retaliatory measures against Russian diplomats in the Czech Republic, which are a response to recent tightening of working conditions for the Czech diplomatic mission in Moscow.

Previously, Russia's Ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechaev, was summoned by the German Foreign Ministry, following complaints regarding the German authorities' theory that Russia was involved in the incident involving a drone recorded on August 5 at Leipzig airport. Simultaneously, it was announced that sanctions would be imposed, and a demand was made to halt the operations of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn by September 18, 2026, as well as to cancel the 2011 intergovernmental agreement regarding cultural and informational centers, which implies the closure of the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin.
